DEPLab - Design of Environmental Processes Laboratory
The Design of Environmental Processes Laboratory is housed in the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Crete, with director, Professor Petros Gikas and belongs to the Sector I "Environmental Management".
It is involved in the development of innovative processes concerning the:
- treatment of liquid and solid waste,
- design of energy positive wastewater treatment plants,
- energy production from solid waste,
- water recovery and reuse,
- environmental impact assessments
- utilization of microalgae biomass to reduce atmospheric CO2 emissions with simultaneous production of bioproducts.
The Design of Environmental Process Lab produces valuable research work related to Environmental Engineering for the development of technologies for the management and utilization of municipal liquid and solid waste. It is constantly evolving, through participations in national and European research programs, such as LIFE, Interreg, Horizon, Marie Curie, but also student and staff mobility programs, such as Erasmus+. In this way, collaborations are established and strengthened between other universities at domestic and international level, in order to exchange innovative research and academic knowledge and techniques.
The aim of the laboratory is to serve the research and educational needs of the School of Environmental Engineering as well as to educate and guide undergraduate, postgraduate students and PhD candidates for the preparation of their diploma and doctoral dissertation.
